About Lady Margaret School

Lady Margaret School is a Church of England academy for girls aged 11-18 situated on Parsons Green in West London. Established in September 1917, there are currently 780 girls on roll, of whom 182 are in the Sixth Form. It is an outstandingly successful school in welcoming girls of all academy abilities and ensuring that they achieve their full potential. Its success is based on a culture of high expectations and aspirations, excellent standards of teaching and a strong commitment to its Christian ethos. However, it remains an inclusive school and girls from other faiths or those who have no religious beliefs at all are welcomed.

Our exam results reflect the hard work of our students and staff. In 2025, 91% of our girls attained GCSE English and Mathematics at grades 9-4. At A Level, our results are consistently outstanding, with high numbers of girls progressing to a wide range of Higher Education courses. In 2025 70% of grades were A*-B. Students at LMS have an excellent record of securing places at top universities.

About the Role

We are looking for an inspirational, committed and enthusiastic professional to join our Music Department from 1st September 2026 on a part-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will teach Music across the full age and ability range from KS3 to KS5. The collaborative nature of the team allows for teachers with varying levels of experience to flourish through mutual support and sharing of best practice.

Candidates should also be aware that there is an opportunity to undertake self-employed instrumental/ vocal peripatetic teaching in addition to this role.

About the Music Department

Lady Margaret School has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for music. Music plays a major part in the life of the school and contributes significantly to the school’s ethos and its Church of England character.

Music is compulsory at KS3 and is a popular choice at GCSE (Edexcel) and A Level (Edugas). Over 150 students currently take individual instrumental and vocal lessons, supported by a team of 12 visiting peripatetic teachers. Students learn a wide range of instruments, including orchestral, drum kit, saxophone, piano and singing and work towards ABRSM and Trinity exams. Regular performance opportunities include termly concerts and recital evenings.

The school offers thriving extra-curricular programme, including Chamber Choir, Junior Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, String Ensemble, Band Club, instrumental groups and a popular Ukulele Club. All ensembles perform regularly, with a full programme of concerts each term.

There is a strong choral tradition: the Chamber Choir regularly performs Choral Evensong at St Paul’s, reflecting important links with the cathedral. The choir recently toured the UK and is planning a European tour. The department also collaborates closely with the drama department on productions such as Guys and Dolls, Annie and The Addams Family, with A Midsummer Night’s Dream planned for June.

All students sing regularly in assemblies, lessons and church services, with choirs leading worship at Eucharist services in St Dionis’ Church (our local parish church) twice a term.

The department is housed in purpose-built facilities. This comprises the Busby Auditorium (seating 120), a recording studio, a computer-equipped classroom and practice rooms. Concerts take place across a range of venues, including the auditorium, school hall, Centenary Garden and St Dionis’ Church on a regular basis.
