School Chaplain

Required for January 2026

We are seeking to recruit an ordained Church of England priest to become our Chaplain at The Grey Coat Hospital. The successful candidate will lead and develop the Church of England ethos of the school and also share in the delivery of the RE curriculum.

The Grey Coat Hospital, founded in 1698, is a Church of England comprehensive school for girls aged eleven to eighteen, which welcomes boys in the sixth form. The historic foundation of the school is reflected in its current ethos. Our daily practice is rooted in a confident and generous Christian faith, which welcomes students and staff of all backgrounds and beliefs. We are proud of the strong and inclusive community ethos which underpins our culturally diverse school. We place strong emphasis on language learning and internationalism within a broad and balanced curriculum. The school fosters high aspirations in all its students and achieves excellent academic outcomes and destinations.

The school is situated in the heart of central London close to excellent transport links. When last inspected in February 2020, the school was judged to be ‘excellent’ in the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS). The school was furthermore rated ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED in October 2022.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • Lead and develop, together with the Head Teacher, the Church of England ethos of the school;

  • Lead and facilitate collective worship across the school and all Church services;

  • Offer pastoral support to students within the existing pastoral structure of the school, and also offer pastoral support to staff;

  • Provide opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, and Christian teaching, for individuals and groups;

  • Maintain a Christian perspective on all aspects of the life of the school, working with staff, students and parents from across the school.

  • Maintain and establish links beyond the school;

  • Contribute to the preparations for future SIAMS inspections.

The school has an excellent programme of support for all new staff and is committed to professional development. We actively encourage teachers to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
