Her Majesty the Queen visited Christ Church C of E Primary School, Chelsea
Her Majesty The Queen has visited Christ Church C of E Primary School in Chelsea, London, on Wednesday 26 June, during the school’s month-long Literary Festival. The school is actively promoting reading for pleasure and encouraging children to develop a lifelong love of books. Her Majesty came along to see several literary activities in action and to hear from pupils about their ‘Readathon’.
Visiting a Reception class, The Queen saw the school’s ‘Shepherd and Sheep’ reading initiative in action. The initiative allocates new pupils starting school in Reception, to a Year 6 ‘shepherd’, who acts as a friend and can assist them with their reading.
The Queen then visited a class who were taking part in a felt making workshop and she was shown a mosaic of The King, which the class made last year, and now hangs outside their classroom.
In the school garden, Her Majesty was greeted by children and teachers at a literary fair. The Queen saw the positive impact reading has brought to the students and had the opportunity to discuss the Literary Festival at the poetry corner and book stand.
Finally, a whole-school assembly took place where the school choir sang, and Her Majesty presented the children with some of her favourite books for their school Library.
