The course is for governors and trustees who are on the headteacher’s appraisal committee and for anyone who would like a deeper understanding of the process.

An effective appraisal system is integral to a successful school and to staff motivation and performance.  The governing board is responsible for the school’s policy and for the headteacher’s appraisal.

This session will focus on how to effectively performance manage headteachers, in particular to explore:

  • the purpose of performance management

  • who is involved and what their role is

  • setting objectives (including teaching and learning, diversity, wellbeing/CPD)

  • monitoring, evaluating and evidence

  • links to pay progression
