Year 6 pupils from St Luke's, Tower Hamlets, volunteer at shelter
Year 6 volunteered at the night shelter at St Luke's on Wednesday 27th November. This was the third year in a row that St Luke's had volunteered at the shelter. 13 children and 5 adults volunteered their time from 6pm - 8pm. You can read the pupil’s reflections below:
"At the night shelter it was really fun because we got to do things and help people do things. We made some jolly cards and decorated biscuits to give to the homeless."
"It was challenging to put all of the sheets onto the duvets."
"We enjoyed greeting the guests when they came in and welcoming them to the centre. We gave them a towel and the guests booked in so they could have a warm shower. We are sure they appreciated the hot shower and a warm space to sleep because it was literally freezing outside."
"We really enjoyed having conversations with the people using the night shelter as they were very appreciative and nice. It was a great experience because we learnt about how others lives can be changed and affected. We learnt the importance of treating everybody the same no matter how different their experiences might be to ours."
"It was a pleasure to help the homeless people and help the church and to reflect on the story of The Good Samaritan and how we can treat others how we would like to be treated."
