The Urswick School Celebrates Record-Breaking Sixth Form Results

The Urswick School is celebrating its best-ever Year 13 attainment results, building on three consecutive years in which the schools Sixth Form has been recognised as performing within the top quintile nationally for A-level student progress. This year’s results maintain those excellent progress measures at +0.38,  while delivering major improvements in key attainment metrics: 87% of A-level grades were A* - C, the highest figure in the school’s history and a substantial increase from 75% last year. More than half of all grades (50.6%) were A*- B , 18.9% were A* - A, and the average grade attained by Urswick students rose to B-, another school record. No student received an ungraded A level and two students have gained entry to Oxford and Cambridge universities.

The Urswick school’s proud  Headteacher Dele Rotimi stated: 

“These outcomes are particularly significant and pleasing because of The Urswick School’s commitment to an inclusive Sixth Form, serving a community with high levels of disadvantage, and deliberately maintaining more accessible subject-entry requirements than most comparator sixth forms and colleges. Our ambition for our students is reflected powerfully in this year’s results: 20% of all grades achieved by disadvantaged students were A* - A, with disadvantaged students achieving proportionately more of the very highest grades than their non-disadvantaged peers. ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ - So I would like to give my thanks to my outstanding staff and supportive parents, as we share our pride and joy in the journey of our extraordinary students”.

The Urswick School’s top achievers

Zakariya Mudhir achieved 5 A*s in Economics, Further Maths, Maths, Physics and EPQ as well as HSK4. Zakariya is going on to study Mathematics at University College London. Zakariya wanted to thank all his teachers for helping him make this possible.

Lucas Narborough achieved A* in Politics,  A* in EPQ, A in Biology and  A Chemistry. Lucas is going to Oxford to study Biology. Lucas thanked the Science department for their support of students and the incredible opportunities they provide for students at Urswick.

Romeo Bremmer achieved A in Law, A in EPQ, B in Politics and C in History. Romeo is going to Cambridge University to do a Foundation Year in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

With a value-added progress measure of +0.38, the results continue The Urswick’s established pattern of students making exceptional progress from their starting points, while this year’s record attainment figures bear fruit to our 6th form improvement priority last academic year to show that inclusion, high expectations and academic excellence can, and should, go hand in hand.
