The Urswick School, Hackney, Record A* and A Grades
There were tears of joy and screams of celebration as students at The Urswick School collected their A Level results. The school achieved a record number of A* and A grades, which increased by 5% compared to last year.
Esther Bakare achieved A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and will study Medicine at University College, London (UCL). Urswick works in partnership with UCL and all of the students have access to study facilities and master classes at their East London Campus. Esther said ‘I am especially grateful to my subject teachers and the Sixth Form team, the Access Project, who helped me apply to Uni, and my friends. Year 13 was a challenge. I am so excited for the future, it pays to work hard and believe in yourself. I am grateful to the school for the incredible support system it provides which included Target Medicine at UCL which is part of the partnership the school has.’
Alvin Ositelu achieved an A* in Law and A grades in both Maths and Further Maths. He has gained a place on a Degree Level Apprenticeship run by Dyson and will study Robotics with AI. Alvin said ‘I am so thankful for all my teachers and all the opportunities that the school has given me, I am really excited for my next step.’
Irene-Lisbeth gained an A* in Law and grade As in Maths and Psychology and is preparing to study Economics at Bath. Meanwhile Connor Backham is heading north to study Aeronautical Engineering at Durham University having gained an A in Maths and two B grades.
Mayida Ali Uddin gained two A*s in Politics and Sociology and is going to study Midwifery at King’s College London.
Richard Brown, who retires as Executive Headteacher at the end of August said ‘These are a brilliant set of results and I am delighted to be leaving the school at such a high point. Data produced by the government in 2024 showed Urswick Students make exceptional progress when they study A Levels at the school. Our progress score this year is +0.54 which will be one of the highest in the country. Our students are off to universities of their choice. Their hard work and the dedication of their teachers has really paid off.’
The students were also congratulated by Deputy Mayor Bramble, Cllr Anya Sizer (Cabinet Member for Families, SEND and Early Years) and Jason Marantz. Hackney’s Director of Education.
