St Mary’s, Twickenham Prayer and Reflection Gardens

Pupils at St Mary's, Twickenham were exploring our value of service during our clergy and class worship. We are all passionate about our local, natural world and wanted to create new spaces on each of our sites which were inviting and calm. Each class designed a pot and created a wish list of items they needed to make their pots.

Their next challenge was to raise the money needed which each class did in their own way. Some children did jobs around the house over half-term and some children did sponsored reading or other activities. By the time we came back, the children had raised over £600 to create the pots. The children decorated their class pots and then planted their chosen plants. Each pot forms part of our new prayer and reflection spaces which our Chaplain Donna blessed during our class worship. The children are now showing service by watering their pots each day. Over the summer holidays, Donna will look after our pots so that other members of our local community can enjoy the flowers and take time for prayer and reflection. When the pots return to us in September, our next project will be to create a more permanent prayer and reflection garden for our local community to enjoy.
