Strengthening Links Between Church Schools in London and Berlin
As part of a diocesan visit to Berlin, Fiona Foreman, Senior Christian Distinctiveness Partner, joined representatives from the Diocese of London in strengthening links with the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz (EKBO), a regional United Protestant church body in Germany.
The conference, Christian Witness in a Divided World, brought together church leaders and local communities for worship, discussion and shared learning, exploring themes including societal polarisation, the rise of the far right, and the role of the Church in contemporary society. Participants also reflected on the life and legacy of Martin Niemöller, considering the importance of faith, leadership and moral courage in public life.
Alongside the conference programme, Fiona visited an elementary school run by the EKBO foundation, gaining valuable insight into church school education in Germany.
The visit highlighted many shared opportunities and challenges facing schools in both Germany and England and provided a useful opportunity to exchange ideas about the contribution of faith-based education in a changing society.
