Last week the Reception class children from St Mary’s CoE School in Stoke Newington baked banana muffins and delivered them to the Second Chance Café ( at St Mary’s Church N16).

The café is an inspirational project in the heart of Stoke Newington that uses food as the vehicle for building community, reducing social isolation and addressing the scourge of both food poverty and food waste.

All money taken at the café is donated to charity, last week was Ukraine week and although the children really wanted to eat the cakes, they loved the fact that the cakes they made were to helping other people around the world.

The children served the cakes and received a round of applause from everyone there. This was a great chance to link our topic of food with some direct and positive learning  as well as engage with our local community.
