Bukayo Saka attended The Edward Betham CofE Primary School from 2006 until 2013. He made his school football team debut in Autumn 2009 and was part of the team that won the Ealing Peal Shield competition in 2012 and 2013.

Bukayo made his first Premier League appearance for Arsenal against Fulham on New Year’s Day 2019. Edward Betham’s PE Lead, Adam Davis, arranged for Bukayo to visit the school in June 2019. Bukayo spoke to Junior pupils during Collective Worship and visited each Infant class.

In Autumn 2020, Bukayo wrote to Year 5 as part of their topic on Do Fame And Christian Faith Go Together? He shared with pupils the role that faith plays in his life:

“I grew up in a Christian family who believe strongly in God. This always made me curious to get to know God more and I have done so by reading my Bible a lot and going to church a lot over the years. My faith is constantly being exercised when I’m put in different situations or I play in big football matches such as my England debut.

I hold onto God’s promises such as the scripture “therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”. So before every game I ask God to help me play well, help my team and try to score a goal or assist a goal and he answers my prayers so this is why I point to the sky to thank him.”

On 9th June, Antoine Allen from ITV News spoke to staff and members of the Year 5 football squad about how they are inspired by Bukayo, you can see the interview here
