Academy Strategy

Child looking through camera

There are seven strategic principles underpinning our approach to the development of Church School Multi-Academy Trusts in the London Diocese. They are:

  1. LDBS policy will only be settled when the primary and secondary legislation is settled.
  2. Church schools in the London Diocese which become academies must join a Church MAT.
  3. The current status of Church schools will not be the key determinant of future status.
  4. Church MATs are expected to live out a distinctive Christian vision.
  5. Church MATs are expected to have clear, transparent plans for school improvement.
  6. Church MATs are open to community schools.
  7. Relationships are at the heart of the family of Church schools.

There is more detail here.

The LDBS is committed to developing diocese-wide plans that will enable all Church schools to join a strong MAT by 2030. You can read about our consultative approach, our 2022/23 timeline and the work we plan to do in 2022/23 as we develop and publish detailed plans.

Our approach has been shaped by extensive consultation from April to June 2022, with meetings across the diocese to bring together Church school headteachers, chairs of governors and clergy, discussing the implications of the White Paper and then the Schools Bill. They culminated in a workshop morning on 16 June attended by 200 people.

You can read the PPT slides from the meeting on 16 June: here.

You can find out what Church school leaders think brings strength to their schools at the moment here, and what gives their school its individual identity here.

You can read a summary of responses to the on-line survey: here.
